About Oliver »
Oliver was born in the Royal Free Hospital after about 23 hours of labour.
He was diagnosed at the 20 week scan as having a cleft lip, and possible cleft palate. Immediately after birth it was apparent that he had both a unilateral cleft lip and a bilateral cleft palate.
Because his clefts, he had to stay in the Neo-Natal Ward at the Royal Free for five nights until he was able to feed from a special bottle, supplied by Clapa. The nurses at the Neo-Natal ward were fantastic!
He was scheduled for surgery with the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) cleft team, under Brian Sommerlad. He had his first operation at the end January - to repair his lip - and is due his second operation on his palate at the beginning of May, 2008.
Oliver is a cheery little boy, full of smiles, and loves to be around people. His parents would quite like it if he learned to sleep through the night, but at the moment he wakes at least once to feed at about 4am, every night.
